Dr Tan Sian Wee
Senior Vice President (Innovation and Enterprise)
Dr Tan Sian Wee is Senior Vice President (Innovation and Enterprise) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Dr Tan joined NUS in January 2025 to lead the Innovation and Enterprise cluster of the University.
Dr Tan's passion has been in bridging technology and business to create new ventures since the 1990s in Silicon Valley. He was an early investor and pioneer of touch feedback technology for Immersion (NASDAQ: IMMR) with 10 patents. Immersion's technologies can be felt today in billions of mobile devices, console game controllers, automotive and medical systems. He went on to develop the spinout programme for the Fraunhofer Society in Germany, Europe's largest contract research organisation and then proceeded to advise Primesense in Israel, which later evolved into Apple's Face ID after being acquired by Apple in 2017. He later joined Monk's Hill Ventures in Singapore as an Operating Advisor and helped raise their first fund, and subsequently became Group Chief Executive Officer of Finaxar, a Singapore-based fintech that spun out of Monk's Hill Ventures that provided SMEs working capital loans through VISA cards. Most recently, he was the Advisor on Strategic Initiatives for Elev8.vc, Singapore's leading deep-tech seed fund.
Dr Tan is currently serving on the Pro-Enterprise Panel for Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry, where he was responsible for introducing new financing policies for small businesses. He is also a mentor at both the German Accelerator for Southeast Asia and Scaleup.NRW in Germany.
Dr Tan holds a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 2001, optimising agent-based distributed manufacturing systems.
